Our 2014 Fundraiser begins TODAY!
Your support meant so much to us last year and enabled us to add over 60 murals of all sizes to our community! This year, we are once again looking to you, our community, to help us continue this amazing project and all the momentum you helped us gather throughout 2013.

Every dollar you can contribute helps, and because WALLTHERAPY is part of a nonprofit organization called the Synthesis collaborative, (check out http://wall-therapy.com/about-wall-therapy/), your donation is tax-deductible.

Our fundraiser on Indiegogo:

In 2013, we helped to shine a positive light on Rochester and its ability to inspire and create. Once again, the Image Capital of the World was in the headlines in all around the world. News outlets and blogs in both hemispheres were clamoring for the opportunity to share photos and stories of the masterful images being created in our city. The artists’ work not only gained international attention, but WALLTHERAPY fulfilled its true purpose, as it beautified our urban landscape and inspired dialogue amongst Rochester citizens, and in doing so helped connect distinct areas separated by class and culture, helping to improve our community.

Over 50 articles were written about the event, including in the Huffington Post, Juxtapoz, Brooklyn Street Art, Arrested Motion, 12oz Prophet, Vandalog, and our own CITY and Democrat and Chronicle. You can check out a few here, or see the full list over on our website:

Full Recap here:
http://wall-therapy.com/walltherapy-2013-media-recap/

The 2013 WALLTHERAPY event was something never before seen in Rochester. Over 30 world renown artists from across the globe came together to create unique and elegant works of art on various walls all over the city. In span of a week Rochester gained over 60 new murals in locations throughout the city, in neighborhoods including the South Wedge and near the El Camino Trail. These paintings varied in size from only a few feet long to creations over 4 stories. By the end of Fall 2013, we had 35 muralists join us in all. All of this was created thanks to financial and volunteer donations from you, our supporters.

We are asking again for assistance to continuing this forward momentum, to continue to bring unique artists to our city to help inspire and to heal. Your continued support will allow us to purchase the paint and supplies, rent the lifts and ladders needed to support the local and international artists as they produce visually compelling murals in the Rochester cityscape, in turn improving and strengthening our thriving community.

If you are unable to financially chip in, we totally understand, but we hope you can share out the link to the fundraiser to your network of friends and help spread the word.

WRITES OF SPRING – APRIL 25-27

WRITES OF SPRING – APRIL 25-27

WOS_logo_600px

Mural season has begun!
Winter has been absolutely brutal to us this year, but the weather is finally cracking and we are just aching to start painting some walls around Rochester. For 2014, we are going to switch things up a little bit. We are going to be hosting a number of smaller curated events through the painting season starting in April and going through as long as the Rochester weather allows us this Fall. Each of these events are going to be more highly curated by topic, the first of which is WRITES OF SPRING, coming up in just a few weeks! And mark your calendars, we are still bringing you WALLTHERAPY July 18-27, but more on that a little closer to the event!

WRITES OF SPRING
New this year, the WRITES OF SPRING is a typography-focused weekend event April 25-27, 2014 here in Rochester, NY. We’re going to be announcing the locations next week (although if you are paying attention, you MAY find us prepping some walls this weekend!) We’re bringing in another diverse group who all celebrate the art of the letter in unique ways, reaching back into the origins of calligraphy all the way to the absolute deconstruction of the letterforms we know so well. We can’t wait!

CERNESTO’S Cool Chili Seasoning
During WALLTHERAPY 2013, Cern, aka Cernesto Wonder, painted a mural on the outside of Stuart’s Spices. While working on their wall, Cern got quite a chuckle from their Cool Chili seasoning. In fact, he liked it so much that they made up some “special edition” bottles of chili called Cernesto Cool Chili. After the mural was completed, they were so appreciative of the artwork and so impressed with the whole WALLTHERAPY Program and our sister initiative, IMPACT!, that they decided to sell the Cernesto Cool Chili and donate 25% of the cost back to WALLTHERAPY. Cernesto Cool Chili is still available at the links below! Just call or email the folks at Stuart’s Spices and they’ll get some out to you asap!

Best of 2013 certificate

Tuesday night, WALLTHERAPY was awarded CITY Newspaper’s “Best Local Art Exhibition of 2013.” We were awarded this distinction last year among a field of esteemed nominees. Without equivocation, I can say that the same is true in 2013.

To the team…
This is an award to be shared with each of you. Your collective intellect and dedication were necessary for the execution of this project. You made this happen!

To our supporters…
You’ve continually shown the world that the Rochester community supports the arts! As we work in earnest to make WALLTHERAPY another one of Rochester’s world-class offerings, your support is especially meaningful and appreciated.

To the artists…
Thank you for sharing your talent wholeheartedly. The diversity of your work has changed our cityscape and, more importantly, our consciousness about art in the public space . . . indelibly!!

Cheers all,
!an

It’s Nearly Showtime!

It’s Nearly Showtime!

The city known as “The World’s Image Center” will once again be living up to its title as it welcomes nearly 30 world renown street artists for the third installment of WALLTHERAPY. They will be transforming walls both large and small throughout Rochester into works of art, serving our collective need for inspiration.

To kick off this week long mural festival, there will be block parties in each neighborhood where the murals are being painted featuring local musicians and performers, adding to the experience as crowds watch the “wall therapists” at work. An open community dialogue with the artists will take place mid-week.

WALLTHERAPY is brought to you by The Synthesis Collaborative, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving health in the developing world using the tools of teleradiology and cloud computing. The common thread is “Imagery,” which has the potential to preserve and enhance life by addressing the needs of both the body and spirit. Its co-founder Dr. Ian Wilson envisions this event and the art it will create to be a lasting influence on the heart of the Rochester community. WALLTHERAPY brings these talented individuals together as a community-level intervention to use mural art as a vehicle to address our collective need for inspiration.

The 2013 WALLTHERAPY has also been made possible by the generous individuals who donated through our indiegogo campaign this past Spring. With their help and donations from local artists, our campaign was able to reach its goal of over $30,000 in just over 30 days.

Join us around the city as our “wall therapists” paint their murals on the various walls generously donated by individuals and businesses in the South Wedge and El Camino Trail area. We will be posting exact locations on Friday, July 19th.

We’ll all be quite busy during the week, so we suggest following us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to get the latest updates!

2013 Fundraiser Update

Dr. Ian Wilson talks to the crowd at our Fundraiser.

We want to thank everyone who joined us last Tuesday for our mid-campaign fundraiser event at Cure here in Rochester. We raised a little over $4000 towards our goal, but we still have a way to go and just under two weeks to do it. Please take a moment to look at our campaign and please donate what you can; all donations to our campaign are tax deductible.

Please enjoy a few photos from the event shot by our friend Hannah Betts.
